An Outsider's Perspective.

Rafael Brewer is a junior at Garfield, a journalist on The Messenger, and a tech theater veteran. He is currently the only student on Garfield's Building Leadership Team, which helps draft the budget and approves small grants for clubs.

Since the start of the year, Rafi has been doing the work of student government without the title. He's the only student consistently present at Seattle School Board meetings, where he's built real working relationships with the Superintendent and senior district staff as a reporter. His instinct is to ask hard questions, and he's done exactly that with the people who run the district.

That's the perspective Rafi brings to ASB. He knows what it's like to wait on a student government that keeps its students in the dark. He's running to make sure that every student at Garfield — not just the ones inside ASB — finally has someone in the room who's ready to ask the hard questions on their behalf.
